To provide all antenatal and postnatal care needs. The doctors in the practice share antenatal and postnatal care with the Wallingford community midwives. Maternity care is provided by a small group of community midwives who work closely with trained Maternity Care Assistants.

Antenatal Care
There are two types of antenatal care:
Midwifery Care - This type of care means that your community midwife or her colleagues and GP will provide your pregnancy and postnatal care.
If, however, there is a deviation from normal, or if your labour should need to be induced, your care will be transferred to a consultant obstetrician.
Midwives will provide your labour care. If you are delivering at home the Waterperry midwives will provide your care.
If you think you are in labour, or need to contact the Waterperry Midwife urgently phone: 01865 221696
Shared Care – This type of care involves visits to your midwife, GP and the hospital and a consultant obstetrician will supervise your care.
Most of your antenatal care will be with your community midwife and GP. The midwife will also undertake your postnatal care at home.
Postnatal Care
The GP will normally carry out postnatal checks at 6 weeks. This appointment should be made via reception at the surgery.
The Health Visitors generally take over care from the midwives when babies are 10 days old but contact is made with ‘Mum’ first. They support the mothers after the birth of their babies with particular regard to breast-feeding, postnatal depression and general well being.
What are the clinic opening times?
Jane and Tracey are our midwives and see patients every Tuesday and Friday mornings. The first appointment to see the midwife should be made at approx 12 weeks gestation. To make an appointment, please contact reception at the surgery.
